This Friday night has the largest crowds of the summer and is always a great time. About 100 vendors with live music and dancers, food, and patriots. This is a real block party.

Friday, May 22 is Back to Nature

Put down the smart phones and video games and learn about opportunities for fun outdoors during Mount Carmel St. Ann’s 4th Friday: Back to Nature, presented by the Westerville Visitors & Convention Bureau.

Back to Nature is the second of six Mount Carmel St. Ann’s 4th Friday events, held on the fourth Friday of each month, April through September in Uptown Westerville. It will be held May 22, 2015 from 6-9pm to kick off Memorial Day weekend.

“Summer’s coming. A little dirt never hurt anybody,” said Jeff Hartnell, Executive Director of the Westerville Visitors & Convention Bureau. “There are plenty of ways to enjoy nature in Westerville with all the parks, bike trails and Hoover Reservoir. Plus you have all the programs offered to encourage outdoor fun.”

Inniswood Metro Gardens and Sharon Woods Metro Park will represent Columbus and Franklin County Metroparks with live animals and information about their summer programming. Did you know the source of Westerville’s drinking water comes from Alum Creek at W. Main St.? Friends of Alum Creek and Tributaries (FACT) will share information about the Alum Creek watershed and will provide handouts on pollution, invasive species, erosion and storm water runoff.

Westerville Parks and Recreation will have information on summer programs to get all ages outside and moving and Lutheran Outdoor Ministries will have information on their summer youth camps.

Again this year, attendees are encouraged to ride their bikes and leave them in a free, secure bike corral on W. Main Street provided by the Westerville Bicycle Club. The corral is located behind The Middlefield Banking Company.

In addition to 100+ street vendors and food trucks, the Uptown shops and restaurants will be open late and prize wheels throughout Uptown will be spinning, giving participants the chance to win fun items.

Performances will include Grassahol on the AAA Ohio Auto Club Music Stage on E. Home St. and The Larry Leoffert Big Band on the Arts Council of Westerville Music stage in front of City Hall. The Academy Irish Dance Studio will perform on E. Home St. at 6:40pm and at 7:40 the crowd will enjoy a Zumba Party With Natalia.

The Arts Council of Westerville’s Arts Alley will feature the work of local artists as well as the music of guitarist Rick Intemann. Generations Performing Arts Center will stage their performance on W. College Ave. from 6-7:30pm.

Buckeye fans will enjoy meeting former OSU Alumni football players Jordan Hall and Chris Fields at Buckeye BrewCraft, 33 N. State St.

For kids, the Westerville Puppet Posse will perform shows during the evening and Heartland Bank will sponsor a Velcro Sticky Wall and Bounce house. Westerville Police will do free digital fingerprinting and the Division of Fire will have equipment on display.
